  1. I am considering making a wiki for my next unit on The Things They Carried.

  2. I am looking into creating Google sites to use as digital writing portfolios. I'm not really sure if it is a realistic option since Gmail is blocked at my school. I'm still doing some research on my options. I know I want to create digital writing portfolios, but the technology aspect might have to change to support my goal and meet the district's expectations. Wish me luck!

  3. I should also add that my students current writing portfolios are in manilla filing folders...Yes, the portfolios are as lame as they sound.

  4. Amanda,
Have you considered using Livebinders.com. Also, There are a lot of different document sharing sites out there, ie. zoho.com. I think you are on the right track, it is just a matter of finding the right site to use that isn't blocked in OPS.

  5. I am planning on incorporating social networking into the classroom by using Schoology. My original intent was to use Facebook since the students are already on it constantly, but since it may be blocked in schools, Schoology is a fun alternative for the students. I have also created a Facebook page that is linked to the Schoology site, so that in the evenings when students are on their own personal computers, they will be reminded to use Schoology for their classroom needs.

  6. I'm planning on using Edmodo and incorporating it into the classroom. This is not block at the school I'm currently at so I thought this would be a good source to use. My goal is to create a classroom page to promote education between students and the teacher. I haven't worked out the details, or explored the site as much as I would like, but I'm working on it.

  7. Dani Grant says...I want to use the museum box website but have been having trouble figuring out how to incorporate it without making it a lesson plan. Also, I want to use social networking site to communicate with my students through museum box. I am kind of challenged at the moment because I think that this idea is too specific and will not help everyone. Any ideas out there?

  8. Steve Handley is a busy new dad, but he is willing to try your Livebinders.com suggestion. I want to have my wife pose as a student. She can communicate and share assignments with me.

  9. I was checking out the Edublog site and am very intrigued. Even if you choose the free option, as opposed to the pro or campus, you can still create unlimited pages and posts and upload any type of file. No email address is required for set up and I created a site in less than 2 minutes. I'm kind of excited to figure out all the different ways I can use this in the classroom.

  10. Dani Grant says...ok, I think I figured it out. I am going to create museum boxes for the kids to store their work over the class, but also incorporate kidblog.com so that they can communicate with each other about the work that they are completing and so that I can use it to communicate with them.

  11. Let me know what you think about kidblog.com. It has limitations with its templates, but I think it could be good for your purpose.

  12. Liz,
The only thing that I have noticed with my free edublog account is that I didn't like the advertisements.Other then that, I agree with you that it is a good site.

  13. Jessica,
Good luck with Edmodo. It is a great tool and a handful of my teachers use it at East. Let me know if I can help you in any way!

  15. I would like to create a livebinder for students but I am having trouble thinking of a content area (learning environment). Any thoughts? I don't want to be to broad with content such as 10th grade Brit Literature but also I don't want to be too limited. I want to have enough material so that it's interesting enough to hold interest. I would also like to create a social networking page ie. facebook as a way for students to communicate and peer evaluate themselves.

  16. What do you guys think about me having my class create a "smilebox" at smilebox.com

They would create a "scrapbook" using pictures they find on the internet and create captions. They would also incorporate music to fit the mood. The smilebox scrapbook would be created for the novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

    Your comments are appreciated! Thanks!

  17. Jeremy,
You could do a lot of different things with LiveBinder. You could use it for a novel unit with each section dedicated to the key components of the unit. You could also use it for a poetry unit...just some ideas!

  18. Emily,
I just checked out the smilebox site. I liked it!It looks like they can post their scrapbooks to facebook and blogger. It would be a great way for them to create and publish a product.

  20. I am planning on doing my portfolio artifact on the g-remote pro software on my computer and cell phone. This software works much like a mobi board only it costs $10.00. I have talked about the program in class, it allows to use the cursor, type text and manipulate devices all from your touch phone. The software allows you to control your computer wirelessly

  21. Dani says...I have been working with my museum box program and having some icky issues with the program. i.e. problems with uploads and the program quitting spontaneously without submitting my data. I am thinking about changing things up and have been looking at a program called wallwisher. Therefore, I may have a new plan for my exploratorium.
